About Us

Herman Street Public School opened its doors to students in 1966 in the original building of 14,241.98 square feet. The second addition officially opened May 28, 1974. Two more additions took place in 1980 and 2006.  Herman Street Public School is located in a residential community in the Town of Petawawa, Ontario, not far from Garrison Petawawa.  We serve approximately 400 JK to 6 students, providing both English and French Immersion Programming.

Families choose to send their children here because of the caring, dedicated staff and community-minded environment that makes Herman Street, home of the Herman Hornets, where we thrive in the Hive!

In April of 2023, we had the opportunity to partner with Bamoonzhe Daycare Centre, a newer childcare facility operated by the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation (BAFN), within our school.  Staff focus on indigenous teachings, supporting local families and addressing childcare demands with support from the Ministry of Education.  Its name, "Bamoonzhe", means "to care for a child" in the Algonquin language, highlighting its mission to provide culturally-rooted care.
